Censorship.

This past weekend, millions of people attended No Kings rallies around the country – a peaceful movement united in the belief that America belongs to its people, not to kings. Aggressive censorship and attacks on free speech are unconstitutional, and massive peaceful protests are one of the most effective ways you can make your voice heard.

The Trump administration has escalated its targeted attacks to silence free speech and inhibit free press – two foundational pieces of our Constitution.

Here’s what’s happened in just the last week:

  • President Trump launched a new round of mass firings against thousands federal employees for their work supporting programs that he doesn’t like and don’t align with his priorities. This censorship and targeted retaliation against public servants are unlawful.

  • The administration has weaponized the National Guard against American cities, targeting deployment of troops to Democratic-led cities Portland and Chicago to intimidate local communities by stripping the rights of free assembly and due process.  Countless Americans are afraid to even attend worship services or community events for fear of these authoritarian raids.

  • President Trump called for the Chicago Mayor and Governor of Illinois to both be jailed, for opposing his unlawful deployment of the National Guard.

  • Trump convened a so-called “roundtable on Antifa,” echoing his recent executive order aimed at targeting progressive organizations he labels without evidence as “domestic enemies.” He wants to designate the non-existent organization “antifa” as a foreign terrorist organization.

  • President Donald Trump wants to invoke the Insurrection Act, a rarely used 19th century law that gives the president the power to deploy active-duty troops. This would mark a dramatic escalation in the administration’s misuse and weaponization of the military against American cities.  It’s also the height of hypocrisy and injustice for a president impeached for leading his own insurrection on January 6th to now try and inappropriately invoke the Insurrection Act to use armed soldiers to silence peaceful protests by Americans.

  • The State Department is now revoking visas of individuals who have posted comments on social media about Charlie Kirk that Donald Trump doesn’t like.

  • After the administration’s attempt to censor comedian Jimmy Kimmel and force him off the air, the outcry of citizens was so significant that the suspension was ended and he’s back on the air, for now.

  • House Ways and Means Chair Republican Jason Smith called on the IRS to revoke the tax exempt status of a number of organizations - continuing congressional Republican weaponization of the tax code to target ideological opponents.

  • US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth demanded reporters covering the Pentagon agree to a unprecedented new policy barring them from using or publishing any materials not approved by Hegseth – even if the information is unclassified. All but one outlet rejected these terms, but this move marks a dramatic limitation on journalists and their First Amendment rights.
