Here's what's happening in Congress.

Last week, the House passed a bill to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian immigrants – a win for the estimated 50,000 Haitian immigrants who call Indiana home.

I proudly voted for this bill and helped force the measure to the floor through a discharge petition – a process that moves a bill to the House floor when Republican leadership refuses to act.

While the bill still needs to pass the Senate and be signed into law, it’s encouraging that even amidst Trump’s cruel anti-immigrant policies, we can pass bipartisan legislation to protect our neighbors.

To the advocates, activists, and concerned citizens who have been pushing for change: your voices matter and are making a difference.

Tax Day Update

As millions of Americans filed their taxes this year, they did not get the relief President Trump and House Republicans promised. Donald Trump promised working families their refunds would increase by over $1,000 -- but instead they fell far short with refunds averaging $346.

At the same time, rising costs continue to soar and strain American families.  Tariffs are costing households an estimated $2,500 per household, gas prices are increasing an extra $740, and families are paying more for groceries, utilities, and everyday essentials.

That’s why I voted for a War Powers Resolution to halt Trump’s war in Iran and address the surging gas prices. Unfortunately, this measure failed thanks to the Republican majority.

The American people have made clear they do not support this war. If we keep up the pressure, we can push Republicans to put the interests of American families first.

ALERT Act

As the top Democrat on the Aviation Subcommittee, I’m committed to keeping our skies the strongest and safest in the world, as well as supporting Indianapolis’ nationally-recognized airport. Last week, I spoke on the floor urging my colleagues to join me in voting for the ALERT Act, which passed the House with an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 396-10. Last year, 67 lives were lost in the DCA midair collision – we need to make sure that never happens again. The ALERT Act will strengthen coordination between civilian and military aircraft, modernize collision prevention technology, and improve aviation safety.

Indy EAP Deadline TODAY

Each year, I work to secure funding for a federal energy assistance program called Indy EAP. If you’re struggling with your utility bill, the last day to apply is TODAY, April 20 at IndyEAP.org.

In addition to providing direct, short-term relief on high energy bills, I’m also fighting to pass the Energy Bills Relief Act to lower your bill long-term. You can read more here.

I want to hear from you:
