Looking back on 2025

Past Newsletters

As we close out the year, I want to take a moment to reflect on 2025 and how we’ve been able to make a difference for Indianapolis families.

This year brought new challenges with a new administration, but I focused on one core mission: being responsive, accessible, and an effective advocate for the people. I’m proud to share some highlights of this work.

Serving Constituents:

Helping constituents navigate federal agencies remains one of the most important roles of my office. This year, we successfully closed 1,325 constituent cases where individuals sought help from our office and secured $1,628,366 in federal benefits, reimbursements, and assistance for Indianapolis individuals and families. That’s roughly $1.6 MILLION back in pockets of Indianapolis families. Whether it was resolving Social Security issues, assisting veterans, or addressing immigration and passport concerns, we worked diligently to deliver results.

To ensure our services were accessible across the district, we hosted 24 Mobile Office events, bringing casework support directly into communities to meet Indianapolis residents where they are.

I also hosted immigrant rights webinars to help inform Hoosier families about their legal rights in the face of new and cruel immigration policies. You can access these resources here.

Legislative Work:

In Washington, I continued to advocate for policies that strengthen our economy, protect public health, and expand opportunities. This year, I introduced 13 bills and cosponsored 578 bills, collaborating with colleagues on both sides of the aisle. I also joined my colleagues in cosigning 418 letters urging the president, federal agencies, and congressional leadership to take action on issues important to our district.

You can read more on my website,  but here are some highlights:

  • A Gun Safety Bill to incentivize safe gun storage and save lives.
  • The Medical Research for Our Troops Act, a bill to restore medical research funding cut by the Trump administration. This program has funded research at the IU School of Medicine and a collaboration between IU and Purdue University. My bill specifically addresses conditions that disproportionately affect our veterans.
  • Amendments to protect Medicaid and essential healthcare from cuts. Trump Republicans’ reconciliation package paid for $7 trillion in tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy – but cut essential healthcare like Medicaid. I introduced amendments to protect this vital program that 36% of Hoosier children rely on.
  • Demands to restore Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and National Forest Service Funding. The Trump administration made cuts that have impacted nonprofits across the country, including KIB in Indianapolis. Our organizations are the lifeblood of our city, and these cuts are unfair and unwarranted.
  • Requests for nearly $80 million for local projects and organizations. This funding, called Community Project Funding, is selected based on guidelines issued by the House Appropriations Committee and can provide funding for eligible non-profit entities and state and local governments.

Staying Connected:

Your voices guide my work. This year alone, our office responded to 393,586 constituent communications via email and 16,137 pieces of postal mail, including official congressional correspondence. I value hearing from you and take seriously my responsibility to represent your concerns in Congress.

None of this work happens without an engaged and informed community. I am grateful for your outreach, your participation, and your partnership in shaping a stronger future for our district.

As we look ahead to the new year, my commitment is stronger than ever: to listen, to serve, and to fight for you every day.

Wishing you and your family joyful holiday season, and a safe, healthy, and happy new year.
