Meet Roodens, Jessica, and Wens.
I want to share a story about Roodens, Jessica, and their 3-year-old son, Wens from Indianapolis.
The family contacted my office because they had a problem: Wens, a U.S. citizen born in Haiti, could not come home to Indianapolis because of a paperwork issue. His parents needed to secure paperwork from the American Embassy in Port Au Prince, but it wasn’t easy. In Haiti, armed groups control up to 90 percent of the capital. The nation is in turmoil – and the simple act of getting to the embassy was turning out to be nearly impossible.
Luckily, my office was able to help fast track a new appointment by working with the embassy. Roodens and Wens were stuck in Haiti for a few more days, but they finally made it home to Indianapolis – safe and sound.
This is the type of work my office does every day to serve Indianapolis residents. I’m proud to provide relief and answers, especially when navigating federal bureaucracy – from Social Security to Medicare to immigration cases.
You can read more about Roodens, Jessica, and Wens’ story here, and you can contact my office for help with a variety of issues here.
From the Floor:
Last week, I voted against Republicans' funding bill because it does nothing to stop ICE’s deadly tactics — including the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. I cannot in good conscience vote in favor of sending ICE more money. All ICE operations must stop now.
I’m also making sure Hoosier immigrants know your rights. You can view video from the Immigration Services Webinar my office hosted here. The First Amendment protects your right to assemble and express your views through protest. If you’re planning on joining a demonstration or protest, brush up on your rights with this information from the ACLU.
