File a claim with your insurance company before applying for government assistance:
If your policy does not cover all of your disaster expenses, you may be eligible for federal assistance. FEMA, the federal agency tasked with disaster relief, cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by another source.
Apply for FEMA assistance:

Within 10 days of applying, an inspector may contact you to schedule an appointment at the address where damage was reported. The inspector’s phone number may be from out of state or show up on caller ID as “unavailable.” Be sure to answer or call back so your application can move forward. Learn more about the inspection process at FEMA.gov.
Within 10 days of your inspection, you likely will receive a letter explaining FEMA’s decision. Read it carefully. The letter will include the amount of money FEMA may provide and information on the appropriate use of that money. It will also explain your application status and advise how to appeal if you disagree with the decision.
Apply for state assistance:
Up to $5,000 is available for food, clothing, home repairs, utilities, temporary housing, and transportation. Apply by calling 211.
Apply for Small Business Association (SBA) Disaster Assistance:
Individuals, small businesses, and non-profit organizations can apply as long as they show they were impacted by the storms on August 11th.

Apply by October 25, 2026 for physical damage. Apply by May 25, 2027 for economic injury.
Participate in Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis's Disaster Relief Program:
To support affected communities, FHLBank Indianapolis has opened its Disaster Relief Program and is increasing available relief funds from $250,000 to $1 million. These funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis and are for applicants at or below 100% median family income.
