President’s Day

February 21, 2014

A Note from Congressman Carson

Dear Friend,

This Monday, we celebrated President's Day, a federal holiday honoring the lives and service of America's past leaders. During this holiday, we take time to reflect on our great nation and the historic contributions of the men elected to lead it.

From George Washington to Barack Obama, American presidents have played an important role in defining the future of our country. Driven by the desire to serve, each Commander-in-Chief took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. For over 200 years, our Presidents have guided this nation through ups and downs, helping to ensure that the freedom and security we hold dear remains strong. Today, because of their leadership and contributions, America remains the most influential and powerful country in the world.

Like our Presidents, we should all strive to make service to our country a central part of our lives. Whether through elected office, participation in neighborhood organizations, or community service, we can all do our part to make the United States a better place. It is my honor to continue doing my part as your Representative. I look forward to working with you for the continued prosperity of this great nation.

Regards,

Inside Scoop

March 31 deadline to sign up for health insurance

The Health Insurance Marketplace is a new way for uninsured Americans to find affordable health coverage. Just like other health insurance options, new clients can only buy coverage during the annual open enrollment period. The current open enrollment period ends on March 31, 2014. Anyone who has not enrolled in a health insurance plan by that date may have to pay a penalty and may not be able to get coverage via the Marketplace until the next open enrollment period opens later this year. If you or someone you know is uninsured, please visit www.healthcare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 to sign up or learn more. You can also contact Congressman Carson's district office at 317-283-6516 to get connected to local organizations that are helping Hoosiers understand the Marketplace and sign up for appropriate coverage.

The Marketplace was created under the Affordable Care Act, which ensures that all private insurance plans offered in the program provide a minimum of essential health benefits to all Americans regardless of pre-existing conditions or gender. Additionally, coverage may be available at a lower cost based on your income and household size.

Constituent Services: Congressional Letters and Recognitions

Congressman Carson believes it is important to give credit to organizations and individuals making a difference in our community. If your organization wishes to have a greeting to print in an event program or if you know a constituent who should be recognized for doing outstanding work, you may request a congressional letter or recognition. Requests should be submitted in writing at least two weeks before it is needed. Please contact Clifton Snorten at 317-283-6516 or Clifton.snorten@mail.house.gov for additional details or to submit a request.
