WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson released the following statement after Indianapolis-based Allison Transmission today announced a $130 million investment that will retool existing plant space to build a newly-developed hybrid transmission. This newest production line-which will create 100 new, well-paying jobs-was supported by a $62.8 million grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"Today's landmark announcement by Allison Transmission is the latest example of the Recovery Act at work in our local community. Thanks to the Recovery Act, more than 100 Hoosiers are going to be put back to work building a transmission that will set a new standard in hybrid technology. And beyond this immediate boost to our local economy, today's announcement could be a sign of even greater things to come.

"Indianapolis has been hard-hit by the decline of the American auto industry. But Allison's success is proof that our city and state have the potential to be leaders in a new, green economy. This hybrid transmission includes components built in two other Indiana plants. We have other plants and facilities across the state that are primed and ready for the kind of retooling taking shape at Allison - bringing idle space back online to create the latest in green-tech. And as our nation's demand for greater fuel economy increases, so too does the opportunity for greater investment and job-creation across the Hoosier state.

"There is no question that Allison's new production line is a very positive step forward in our effort to get our economy back on track. But I think even greater excitement comes from this investment being a potential blueprint for even more growth in the decades to come."
