Carson: American Workers and Homeowners Should be Centerpiece of Economic Stimulus Package

October 21, 2008

Washington, D.C. – "The systemic loss of jobs and our current housing recession are two key reasons why our economy is underperforming and working Americans are struggling to make ends meet. That's why it is vital that the next economic stimulus package include provisions that extend unemployment benefits, create jobs and provide relief to middle-income homeowners.

"Republican proposals of wanting to provide additional tax breaks to some of our nation's biggest corporations will do little to help displaced workers or their dependent loved ones. Such misplaced proposals resemble the same ineffective trickle-down economic policies of the Bush Administration that have done little to boost our sagging economy our help working Americans in their dire time of need.

"Middle-income workers and homeowners are the backbone of our economy. By helping our middle-class, we can boost our economic productivity and stabilize our tumultuous housing markets."
