Carson Announces Grant for Neighborhood Center

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a $1.8 million grant to the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center @ Crooked Creek located on Indianapolis' northwest side.

The funding will be used to construct a one-story independent living facility consisting of 15 one-bedroom units for low income persons with disabilities. This housing will be located in close proximity to an abundance of supportive services including social services, shopping, recreational opportunities and medical care.

"Hoosiers with disabilities should never have to worry about finding decent, affordable and safe places to live," said Congressman Carson. "This grant will create necessary options for residents who are in need of accessible housing. It also highlights the hard work by the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center. I am both pleased and proud to see Indianapolis benefit from this funding."

The grant was provided through HUD's Section 811 Supporting Housing program and was a portion of $550 million in housing assistance that will fund 169 projects in 46 states.
