Carson, Ballard to Kick Off Construction Training Phase of $2.2 million Youth Build Indy Program

INDIANAPOLIS - Congressman André Carson will be joined by Mayor Greg Ballard and partnering organizations at a press conference on Thursday to kick off the construction training phase of the $2.2 million Youth Build Indy program.

Youth Build Indy, operated by the Indianapolis Private Industry Council and funded by a competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, is an education, career development, construction training and leadership development program for individuals age 18 to 24.  Participants must be low-income, have dropped out of school and not earned a GED certificate, and have committed to being drug free.

This year's 36-week program currently underway has 34 participants and offers hands-on construction training through rehabilitating a vacant house, along with education, career and leadership development training.
