CARSON, COMMUNITY LEADERS BREAK GROUND ON MASS AVE DEVELOPMENT
Trail Side on Mass Ave to bring affordable housing and retail options
INDIANAPOLIS - Congressman André Carson today joined developers Riley Area Development Corporation, Monument Realty and community leaders for the groundbreaking of the Trail Side on Mass Ave.
The $10 million, multi-use facility on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail will anchor the east end of Massachusetts Avenue in downtown Indianapolis and replace a now vacant warehouse. The facility will include an underground parking garage, nearly 11,000 square-feet of retail space and 69 affordable, one-bedroom apartments.
"This project is about building communities and improving the quality of life for our citizens," said Congressman Carson. "Trail Side brings affordable living to a location with great accessibility and mobility right outside their front door. It's projects like this that show how we can put federal funds to work for Indianapolis."
Funding for the development comes from multiple sources, including Housing and Urban Development, Indianapolis Housing Agency, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, City of Indianapolis HOME funds, National Bank of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership and Alliant Capital.
Trail Side was also made possible through cooperation with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Department, Indiana Historic Preservation Commission, Center Township Trustee, Mass Ave Merchants Association and others.
Monument Construction will begin work on Trial Side this week. Construction is expected to be complete by spring 2012. Visit www.trailsideonmass.com for more information.
