Washington, D.C. – Congressman André Carson issued the following statement after introducing legislation that would name a new veterans home, currently under construction in Indianapolis, for former Indiana Governor Otis Bowen:
"Last week, I was proud to introduce legislation that would name new VA facility in Indianapolis for one of the most consequential figures in modern Indiana history, former Governor Otis Bowen. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Bowen held public health to be a top priority—as a physician, as governor and eventually as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Beginning with his service in the Army during WWII and continuing through his recent tenure on the Board of the Lilly Endowment, Dr. Bowen has persistently worked to ensure that all veterans receive the quality health care that they deserve.
"When construction is completed, this facility will provide housing to the families of veterans who are undergoing rehabilitative care at the Indianapolis VA hospital. I believe that naming this facility for Dr. Bowen is especially apt given his ongoing support for our nation's veterans throughout his career. I look forward to seeing this facility deservingly named in his honor and hope to see it provide much needed assistance to veterans and their families for years to come."
