CARSON OPPOSES REPUBLICAN CONTINUING RESOLUTION
Cuts made in legislation threaten jobs, economic future

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Republicans voted to arbitrarily cut investments in our economy this morning in a move that will not create jobs or truly address our country's deficit problem, Congressman André Carson said.

"Creating jobs and reducing the deficit should be the top priorities of this Congress," said Congressman Carson. "Republicans have yet to propose any legislation that will help put Americans back to work and the scorched-earth policy they adopted today not only hurts our nation's economic growth, but also damages our ability to compete in the future.

"Under this proposal, devastating cuts will be made to transportation projects resulting in the loss of more than 3,000 private-sector jobs in Indiana. Hoosier college students will see their maximum Pell Grant awards lowered by $647 for the coming school year. The Republican proposal also jeopardizes the consumer protections that are the cornerstone of the Wall Street Reform law.

"I understand that tough choices will have to be made in solving our deficit problem, but random cuts without regard for the impact it will have on our economy and Americans is not the route we should take."
