Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman André Carson issued the following statement after receiving word that a 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti Tuesday:
"Today, my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of yesterday's devastating earthquake in Haiti and to their families around the world. As the extent of destruction and loss of life becomes clearer, I stand with the American people stand, ready to assist the injured and displaced in the difficult days ahead.
"I have been reassured that President Obama, Secretary Clinton and the international community have so quickly responded with a pledge of humanitarian aid and disaster relief assistance. In the coming days, I will be working with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that all necessary aid reaches the Haitian people and that they have our full support in their time of need."
