Carson Secures Funding for Job Training and Small Business Ownership Programs
June 26, 2008
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman André Carson announced that he has secured $200,000 in federal funds for a job training and small business program at the John H. Boner Community Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This $200,000 allowance for the John H. Boner Community Center was secured in the FY 2009 House Financial Services Appropriations bill.
The funding secured for the Boner Community Center in the FY 2009 House Financial Services Appropriations bill will be used to provide job-training/workforce development services and small business mentorship programs to low-income families already enrolled in the Center's homeownership program.
"These funds will help ensure that more needy families continue down the road of economic self-sufficiency and stability through sound financial planning and business training opportunities," Congressman Carson said. "I am proud to support this project, and I will continue to support worthy programs that invest in our community's most important asset – our residents."
"With major housing plans being implemented in our community, we wanted to ensure a ladder of opportunity existed for those wanting to make the leap from renter to home ownership. We knew without this opportunity, we risked displacing many of our low income families" said James Taylor, Executive Director of the John H. Boner Community Center.
The House Appropriations Committee approved the FY 2009 Financial Services Appropriations bill on June 25, 2008. The bill will first go to a Conference Committee and then must be approved by both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate and signed by the President before being enacted and becoming law.
