CARSON STATEMENT ON 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS
Congressman Carson serves as the CBC Whip for the 112th Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson released the following statement today honoring the 40th Anniversary of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC):

"Since the Congressional Black Caucus was formed in 1971, its members have led the way in breaking barriers and advancing legislation on important issues ranging from education and employment to foreign affairs. I am humbled and honored to be a member of the CBC and serve on the leadership team during our 40th Anniversary.

"Through the spirit of servant leadership and decades of efforts to improve the lives of all Americans, the CBC has more than earned the title "Conscience of the Congress." With 42 members, the CBC continues to be a voice for the voiceless and will remain focused on getting Americans back to work by creating economic opportunities for all, not by cutting critical programs that impact our most vulnerable citizens.

"Our country has made significant progress over the years, but we are at a moment when that progress is being threatened. We cannot afford for that to happen and the CBC will not compromise when it comes to the welfare of all Americans.

"As we reflect on our 40 years of service we renew our commitment to defend the change we have all worked so diligently for."
