CARSON STATEMENT ON ANNIVERSARY OF KING ASSASSINATION
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman André Carson released the following statement today on the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr:
______________________________________________________
"Forty-three years ago today, our nation lost a titan of the civil rights movement and a genuine American hero.
"Dr. King spurred thousands to action by noting that 'injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' He understood that time could be used either destructively or constructively and that the people of good will needed to use their time more effectively than the people of ill will.
"Dr. King's words are as relevant today as when they were penned. While our great nation has made incredible strides, all Americans share a common duty to be vigilant and ask ourselves whether we, as a people, have done all we can to ensure that injustice is not only uprooted, but denied fertile soil to ever grow again.
"In so doing, we pay the greatest homage to Dr. King and his legacy."
