Carson Statement on Bipartisan Housing Bill Being Signed Into Law

July 30, 2008

Washington, D.C. – Congressman André Carson issued the following statement today after President Bush signed the American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act into law. This bipartisan measure, which included language authored by Congressman Carson, will provide relief to more than 400,000 homeowners struggling to finance their mortgage payments.

"This housing relief package will provide wide-ranging and much needed assistance to those working families on the verge of losing their homes due to default and foreclosure. This measure seeks to boost our sagging housing market, create jobs and enhance our receding economy.

"While this comprehensive housing measure will certainly provide urgently needed support to hardworking American families, much more is needed. It is important that the Bush Administration work with Congressional Democrats in supporting other initiatives that will create jobs, spur economic growth and generate long-term fiscal security for all working Americans."
