Carson Statement on the Collapse of Fiscal Cliff Negotiations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman André Carson released today the following statement in light of House Republicans' "Plan B" breakdown and the adjournment of Congress:

All of us were elected to Congress to represent the American people—not ideology and not party. Yet in a time when American families face tax increases as high as $3,600, when millions of seniors fear losing access to their doctors, when the unemployed prepare to lose their lifeline, Republicans have given up and headed home for the holidays.

Despite their decision, the reality remains—we cannot avert the fiscal cliff without a compromise. President Obama has made a good faith effort. Republicans need to abandon their stubborn protection of millionaires and billionaires and start working for the middle-class Americans who elected them.
