CARSON STATEMENT ON HEALTH CARE REPEAL VOTE

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson released the following statement in response to tonight's House vote to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:

"Tonight's vote by the Republicans to move our country backwards and strip Americans of new health care rights and benefits was political theater at a time when the American people want progress. This legislation has no chance of going anywhere in the Senate, and it's taken our focus off our number one priority - putting Americans back to work. Every moment we spend debating this repeal is a moment we are not spending on creating jobs.

"Though today's vote was a waste of time, it does give us insight into the misplaced priorities of the new Republican majority. They want to put insurance companies back in charge of medical decisions, allow children with pre-existing conditions to be denied coverage, kick young people off their parent's insurance before the age of 26, and keep prescription drug prices high for our Hoosier seniors.

"I hope that as we move forward in the 112th Congress, Republicans readjust their priorities and work in a bi-partisan way to address the real challenges we face without the sideshows and political gimmicks."
