Carson statement on march jobs report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman André Carson released the following statement today in response to the U.S. Department of Labor's report that the U.S. economy added 216,000 new jobs in March, dropping the unemployment rate to 8.8 percent. Over the past four months the unemployment rate has fallen by a full percentage point, the largest such decline since 1984.

"Today's jobs report continues what we have seen for more than a year – the private sector adding jobs. This job growth has pushed the unemployment rate to the lowest level in two years and marks another step forward in our economic recovery. Yet, while the last two months of private job gains have been the strongest in five years, I remain cautious and understand that we still have a long way to go.

"As we look at the days and weeks ahead, Congress is facing a choice between policies to help create jobs or policies of reckless spending cuts that harm our constituents and end much needed investments in our economy. I know that Hoosiers want jobs and my hope is that Republicans in Congress take a close look at this report and recognize that we must continue our economic momentum."
