Carson Statement on Ninth Anniversary of September 11

INDIANAPOLIS - Congressman André Carson released the following statement in recognition of the ninth anniversary of September 11.

"Today we pause to honor the nearly 3,000 American lives that were lost in the attack on our country nine years ago.

"Our nation, and the world, has rarely been as unified as it was in the days after September 11th. No matter what your race, religion or economic status, we were all New Yorkers and we stood united. It was the true spirit of America that came through after that horrific day. And in this current time of growing partisan divide, we must work to find that unity again.

"As we see throughout our nation, too much of our political dialogue is spent demeaning the other side or being driven by fear-not facts. We need to challenge ourselves to find the common ground and move forward together to solve the problems our country faces. Because if we are unable to put our differences aside for the sake of progress we will miss an opportunity to build our nation's future in a way that we can all be proud. A future that is a tribute to not only those who we lost on that fateful day, but to the men and women who have given their lives trying to prevent another tragedy from happening again."
