CARSON STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT's nomination for consumer financial protection bureau

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman André Carson released the following statement today in response to President Obama's nomination of former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The CFPB will officially begin its oversight and regulatory work on July 21.

"To ensure Wall Street recklessness can never again bring our economy to the point of collapse, we need an aggressive consumer and taxpayer friendly advocate running the CFPB. Richard Cordray is that advocate. Whether as Ohio's Attorney General or helping Elizabeth Warren launch the agency he hopes to lead, Cordray has proven throughout his career that he is qualified to be Director.

"My hope is that the Senate promptly confirms Cordray and Republicans halt their efforts to block nominees and gut every critical reform law passed in the prior Congress.

"Cordray will ably carry the mantle of Elizabeth Warren as a passionate defender of the middle class with a true understanding of the challenges working families face."
