CARSON STATEMENT ON CONTINUING RESOLUTION

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman André Carson released the following statement today on the Republican proposed, one-week continuing resolution to keep the government funded.

"The budget is a moral document. It is a statement of American values. The Republican-proposed continuing resolution includes extreme cuts that will hurt millions of struggling Americans and put our economic recovery in jeopardy. If Republicans are truly interested in preventing a shutdown of the federal government, they should put forth a continuing resolution that doesn't use our military men and women as cover and actually has a chance to be approved by the Senate and the President.

"The White House and Democrats have offered a budget framework that cuts the same amount of spending as Speaker Boehner and Republicans originally proposed. Republicans continue to delay solutions, demand cuts, and ignore compromise.

"Republicans need to stop playing political games with the American people and our most vulnerable citizens. Americans demand that the uncertainty caused by short-term funding comes to an end and that Republicans put forth a responsible budget for the remainder of 2011. A government shutdown doesn't help anyone."
