CARSON STATEMENT ON THE RETIREMENT OF CHIEF JUSTICE RANDALL SHEPHERD

Indianapolis -- Congressman Andre Carson issued the following statement today on Indiana Chief Justice Randall Shepard's retirement announcement:

"Chief Justice Shepard is a nationally renowned jurist, but his impact has been much broader for our state. He made the Supreme Court more accessible to the public by opening its hearings to cameras, he championed diversity in the legal profession by establishing the Conference for Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO), and he helped give independent life to the provisions of the IndianaConstitution, thereby expanding many Hoosier rights." Carson added, "Hoosiers should applaud Chief Justice Randall Shepard for his leadership and for the distinguished service he has rendered to our state since 1985."
