Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman André Carson issued the following statement after the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that it is awarding the City of Indianapolis $3.9 million to prevent homelessness and help those who already lost their home:
"Last month, an annual count of the homeless population in Indianapolis showed an extreme increase in the number of families struggling with homelessness—a clear sign of the impact this troubled economy is having on Hoosiers.
"Today, I was pleased to see HUD award more the $3.9 million to our city at such a critical time when more and more families find themselves without a place to call home. With these funds, Indianapolis will have a unique opportunity to both provide housing to the homeless while also preventing further homelessness by helping Hoosiers who are on the brink of losing their home or apartment."
