CARSON SWORN IN AS 112TH CONGRESS BEGINS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson released the following statement after joining his colleagues on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives today to be sworn in as a member of the 112th Congress.

"I'm blessed to be in this rare opportunity to serve the people of my hometown, and I am honored to be a part of the 112th Congress.

"While this upcoming session brings changes in leadership, it doesn't change the goals we were sent here to achieve on behalf of our constituents. People across this great nation are expecting both parties to work together to resolve the many challenges our communities face. And while the House agenda will be determined by Republicans, the priorities must still be driven by the needs of the people.

"Whether it's the ongoing economic recovery, the housing foreclosure crisis hurting our families and neighborhoods, or the continued classroom struggles of our young people-we have to remain focused on the critical issues impacting Americans every day.

"I'm ready to get to work and willing to join with any of my colleagues who are truly determined to move this nation forward."
