WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman André Carson issued the following statement after voting to pass legislation recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month. The resolution honors the numerous contributions Hispanic-Americans have made to enrich our culture and improve our communities:

"Since the founding of the United States, Hispanic heritage has enriched our national identity and propelled us toward the economic and cultural strength we enjoy today.  This year, Hispanic Heritage Month has given us all an opportunity to once again commemorate the countless Hispanic-Americans who have excelled at all levels of business, entertainment and government, delivering invaluable contributions to America.

"Indianapolis, like so many other cities, has a vibrant Hispanic community. Our city is stronger thanks to the contributions of our Hispanic-American brothers and sisters, who have played an active role in improving our schools and neighborhoods, keeping our economy going and helping us all recognize the importance of embracing our rich cultural diversity."
