Congressman Andrė Carson to join US Labor Secretary Perez and Sen. Donnelly to discuss Indianapolis’ successful workforce development programs

INDIANAPOLIS – Congressman Andrė Carson, (IN – 07), U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez, and U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly will visit Pike High School in Indianapolis, a recent Youth CareerConnect grantee,Wednesday, Sept. 3, to see first-hand how students are receiving the skills they need for in-demand jobs. Youth CareerConnect encourages America's school districts, institutions of higher education, the workforce investment system and their partners to combine rigorous educational standards with work experiences and skills in ways that enhance instruction and deliver real-world learning opportunities for students.

Congressman Carson, Secretary Perez and Senator Donnelly will then have lunch with workers, AFL-CIO leadership and management from Walsh Construction Co. to discuss workforce development and job training.

To conclude, Congressman Carson, Secretary Perez and Senator Donnelly will visit Allison Transmission, where they will work alongside Hoosiers on the plant floor. This visit will highlight the successful partnership between Allison Transmission and the local workforce in order to fill high-skilled jobs in advanced manufacturing.
