Congressman Carson Named House Democratic Deputy Whip for Policy
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman André Carson (D-IN-07) announced that he was named House Democratic Deputy Whip for Policy, a role focused on strategic, long-term planning and coordination of policy priorities across the House Democratic Caucus. This position is appointed by Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, the number two Democrat in the House of Representatives.
“Democrats are the party of the middle class. We are the party of more opportunity for all Americans, not the party of billionaires and special interests” said Congressman Carson. “In this role, I’ll be working with my Democratic colleagues to fight back against the Trump administration’s dangerous policies and get us back to the basics of what American families really want: lower costs, better schools, and higher-paying jobs.”
“Rep. André Carson is a relentless advocate for the people of Indiana’s 7th District and an invaluable asset to the House Democratic Caucus,” said Democratic Whip Katherine Clark. “As we fight back against the Republican crusade to steal from everyday Americans and hand tax breaks to billionaires, I’m grateful that Rep. Carson will serve as Deputy Whip for Policy in the 119th Congress. His leadership will be essential to advancing our agenda: making life easier, safer, and more affordable for working families.”
Congressman Carson also was appointed to serve on the following committees and subcommittees:
House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
- Ranking Member, Subcommittee on the National Intelligence Enterprise
- Member, Subcommittee on the National Security Agency and Cyber
Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure
- Member, Subcommittee on Aviation
- Member, Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials
Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the US and the Chinese Communist Party
“Indiana is the crossroads of America and we depend on rail. Indianapolis is also home to one of the highest-ranked airports in the world. My committee assignments allow me to serve my constituents’ urgent transportation needs and also strengthen our national security in these turbulent times,” said Congressman Carson.
