Congressman André Carson Names New Press Secretary

INDIANAPOLIS (December 13, 2011) – Congressman André Carson announced today that he has selected Blake Johnson to serve as his press secretary. Johnson will assume his duties immediately and work from the Indianapolis District Office.

Johnson joins Congressman Carson's staff after working most recently as communications director for the Marion County Democratic Party. Prior to that role, Johnson completed a two-year commitment with Teach for America, a national service corps that places high-performing, recent college graduates in urban and rural school districts around the country. During his time with the organization, Johnson taught English Language Arts at the Indianapolis Public Schools' Coleman Alternative Education Center.

"Blake's time as a classroom teacher in the Indianapolis Public Schools and his work with the Marion County Democratic Party have given him a unique combination of experience and perspective," Congressman Carson said. "His drive to serve the public and his commitment to our city will serve him well in this new position. I am pleased to welcome him to the team."

Johnson holds a degree in Political Science and Communication from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, as well as a Master's Degree from Marian University in Indianapolis.
