Congressman Carson Statement on Beginning of Ramadan
Washington, DC -- Congressman André Carson (IN-07), one of three Muslims serving in the United States Congress, released the following statement marking the beginning of Ramadan:
"I am pleased to wish ‘Ramadan Mubarak' to Muslim-Americans observing Ramadan in Indiana, across America, and around the world,” said Congressman Carson. “This sacred time of fasting and sacrifice is a chance for Muslims to grow closer to our faith and to one another. This month is also a chance to reaffirm our shared values – fighting poverty, promoting peace, and stamping out inequality. These are the values of Islam and of our country. Together, we can continue working towards a stronger, more equitable future for our state, nation, and world.”
On Wednesday, Congressman Carson introduced a U.S. House Resolution recognizing the commencement of Ramadan on March 22nd, 2023. Throughout his service in Congress, Congressman Carson has worked on a number of initiatives to advance religious freedom for everyone, and to support religious, ethnic, and racial minorities, including establishing the first interfaith prayer space for staff and the public in the Capitol complex.
