Congressman Carson's on April Job Numbers

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Congressman André Carson released the following statement about the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announcement today that the U.S. gained 290,000 jobs in April. 

"I am encouraged by today's news that our economy continues to add jobs as our recovery from the recession takes shape. With 290,000 jobs added - 231,000 of them in the private sector - this marks the largest number of new jobs in fours years and the fourth consecutive month of job growth.

"While this is welcome news and a clear indication that the economic policies of President Obama and the Democrats in Congress are working, our comeback as a nation is still a work in progress.  The high rate of unemployment reminds us that we still have a ways to go before our economy has fully recovered from the failed policies of the past administration, which resulted in 8 million lost jobs and nearly doubled the national debt.

"The most significant aspect from today's jobs report is the fact it is evidence of the upward trajectory our economy is taking. We've seen more than a half million jobs created since December; tax cuts for 98 percent of America's families and businesses; and three straight quarters of economic growth.?

"My top priority is keeping that momentum going and putting more Hoosiers back to work. This means a continued push for legislation that reins-in the greed and excess of Wall Street-making sure they don't take any future risks that hurt Main Street.  And we need to continue to promote job growth by investing in the green economy, which holds so much potential for new jobs in clean and sustainable energy technology."
