Krishnamoorthi and Carson Respond To White House Official’s Reported Push To Remove Canada From The Five Eyes Intelligence-Sharing Network
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Congressman André Carson issued the following statement in response to a report that Peter Navarro, one of President Donald Trump’s closest advisers, is pushing for the U.S. to remove Canada from the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network as President Trump increases pressure on the country he talks about turning into the 51st U.S. state:
“From the beaches of Normandy to battlefields and humanitarian operations spanning the globe, Canadian servicemembers and civilians have worked hand in hand with Americans to safeguard American security, Canadian security, and the rules-based democratic order. The notion of removing Canada from Five Eyes, expelling one of our closest allies as well as a nation that possesses first-rate military and intelligence services, would be a betrayal of American values and a senseless weakening of American security against the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party, Russia, and other adversaries. At a moment when diplomatic, security, and intelligence cooperation is especially vital to the safety and prosperity of our nation, there is no defense for antagonizing and alienating a faithful and essential ally.”
