Rep. Carson's Statement on Peyton Manning's Exit from the Colts
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson (D-IN) released today the following statement regarding Peyton Manning's exit from the Indianapolis Colts:
I have no doubt I join every Colt fan in the nation today in expressing sadness that Peyton Manning will not finish his storied career in Indianapolis.
For the last fourteen years, Peyton has exhibited a model work ethic and defined leadership. The four-time NFL MVP helped transform the Colts into a powerhouse, leading our team to record-setting consistency in wins, 11 playoff berths, two conference championships, and an unforgettable Super Bowl victory.
In poise and character on the field, Peyton has always towered above his competitors, and his time with the horseshoe will never be forgotten.
But Peyton showed his true character by how he gave to our community. He has led countless clinics for our young people, assisted numerous charitable organizations to strengthen the compassion of our city, and donated his time and treasure to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital, which will stand as the embodiment of his legacy in Indianapolis.
We are sad to see Peyton go, but we know that Jim Irsay and his team will build upon the success of the last fourteen years and continue moving the Indianapolis Colts forward.
On behalf of the 7th District, I want to thank Peyton for giving so much of himself to our community and for generating so much excitement and camaraderie in this city for so long. We wish him well and Godspeed.
