Richard Lugar – A Legacy of Collaboration

On Thursday, I joined Senator Richard Lugar for the rededication of the newly renovated Lugar Tower and the grand opening of the Braxton at Lugar Tower. It was truly an honor to join Indiana's longest serving Senator as we recognized his life-long service and celebrated the ongoing improvements to affordable housing in Indianapolis.

Lugar Tower, dedicated to then Mayor Lugar in 1974, is a vital source of affordable housing for low-income families, seniors and persons living with disabilities. It serves as a constant reminder of the Senator's lifelong commitment to improving the lives of Hoosier families. The Braxton at Lugar Tower, named in honor of our city's first African-American fireman, adds 74 apartments and lofts in the heart of Downtown Indianapolis.
The Braxton at Lugar Tower is a testament to the Senator's commitment to the City of Indianapolis. Senator Lugar's extraordinary diplomatic skills have helped to make the world a safer place. It has been my great honor to work with him to improve lives of Hoosiers. He will be greatly missed in our nation's capital.
Shattering Generational Poverty in Indianapolis
On Wednesday, I celebrated the one-year anniversary of Project Home Indy, a wonderful foundation dedicated to empowering young women and their children in a nurturing environment.
In its first year of operation, Project Home Indy has achieved remarkable outcomes:
  • All of the young women are receiving critical prenatal care.
  • 100% of babies born have been healthy, full-term and full birth weight.
  • Most residents have now graduated from high school, and some have begun taking college classes.
  • Residents have found employment that will provide them invaluable job skills and a source of income.
Project Home Indy is helping to eradicate generational poverty in Indianapolis. This remarkable organization serves as a powerful model for improving lives by addressing head-on the challenges facing our community.
