Floor Statement on Indiana Tornados and Floods - June 11, 2008

THE HONORABLE ANDRÉ CARSON
ONE MINUTE FLOOR STATEMENT ON INDIANA FLOODS AND TORNADOS
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11, 2008

Madam Speaker, over the last few weeks, my home state of Indiana has fallen victim to a string of severe weather incidents.  Recent tornados, thunderstorms, and flooding have seriously damaged and destroyed homes, schools, and businesses throughout the Hoosier state.

The Indiana Congressional Delegation has been working in a bipartisan and bicameral fashion to do all we can to ensure that the victims of these unfortunate weather occurrences receive the federal assistance that they so desperately need as they start the long journey towards rebuilding their communities.

As Hoosier families work to reconstruct their homes and neighborhoods, it is imperative that the federal government do all that is within its power to help those individuals who have been displaced by this inclement weather.  That means the Bush Administration doing what's necessary in ensuring that both tornado and flood victims receive the federal assistance they need to recover and pull through these tragic and trying times.

Hoosiers are hurting and it is vital that this Congress and this Administration work to alleviate the unforeseen hardships of those individuals in my district and across the state of Indiana.

Thank you Madam Speaker and I yield back the balance of my time.
