Thoughts for the Victims of the Tragedy in Tucson
I was sickened and appalled by the tragedy that occurred in Tucson last weekend. I send my deepest condolences to all those mourning the loss of family, friends and colleagues. I am heartened by recent reports that my colleague and friend, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was gravely wounded, has made extraordinary progress in recovering from this horrific attack. I wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to the day when she can rejoin her colleagues in the House. My thoughts and prayers go out to her husband Mark and her family, her staff and their families, the other victims and the people of Arizona.
CBCF Congressional Internship Program
For all my constituents currently attending college, I want to bring your attention to an exciting educational opportunity in Washington this summer. In recognition that our democracy does not always reflect the diversity of this great nation, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Congressional Internship Program provides an intensive nine-week internship aimed at teaching college students the legislative process, leadership skills and careers in the field of public policy. Those accepted to the program will work in Congressional Black Caucus Member offices, attend professional development events and participate in leadership development projects.

Redeveloping the Brookville Road Corridor
This week I joined neighborhood residents and local officials for a meeting on the Brookville Road Corridor Revitalization project. The meeting was facilitated by the Irvington Development Organization, along with the UAW and Pure Power Technology to inform community leaders on a new redevelopment effort in the Brookville Road area. I look forward to continuing work with local businesses, residents and elected officials in this area to bring good jobs back to the near Eastside and help transform a neighborhood that has been greatly affected by the economic downturn.
