Congressman Carson Speaks on Protecting Medicaid in GOP Budget Reconciliation
Mr. Speaker, today I rise to speak about Arica, from Indianapolis’ eastside. Arica is a single mother of 5, including one child with special needs. She says if Medicaid is cut, she and her 5 kids will not be able to survive.
There’s Carol Ann, whose Meals on Wheels have already been reduced. She told me, quite simply, “We need food to live.”
Bethany, from the Southside of Indianapolis. She says, “Without Medicaid I would be dead. If Trump cuts Medicaid, I will probably die. I am not alone in this.”
These are the stakes. Every corner of my district, every corner of my state, every corner of my country would be impacted by this budget’s cruel cuts. Under this budget, 14 million people will lose healthcare. Millions will lose SNAP benefits. But those aren’t just numbers. They are PEOPLE. People like Arica, Carol Ann, and Bethany.
I implore my colleagues to remember our shared humanity. Vote NO on this heartless budget.
Thank you, I yield the balance of my time.
