Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman André Carson threw his support behind AARP's "Divided We Fail" campaign. "Divided We Fail" is an AARP campaign to solve the increasingly difficult issues of affordable health care and lifetime financial security. Below is the text of the letter that Congressman Carson sent to AARP's Congressional Relations Office signaling his strong support for the organization's initiative.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Carson submitted the following statement for the record in support of H.R. 6899, the Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act:

"Mr. Speaker, the American people are hurting and in need of immediate relief. And the relief they need extends beyond their urgent need for lower energy costs. Mr. Speaker, the American people also need jobs and they need them now.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman André Carson released the following statement today after the Department of Labor reported that the number of newly laid off people signing up for jobless benefits recently climbed to its highest level in more than six years. New applications filed for unemployment insurance rose by a seasonally adjusted 7,000 to 455,000 for the week ending Aug. 2.
