Carson Health Study Amendment to the
Pipeline Safety Bill, H.R. 4937
Mr. Chairman, I’m offering this amendment to provide better data about the health impacts of oil spills. I commend Chairman Shuster and Ranking Member DeFazio, and Rail Chairman Denham and Ranking Member Capuano on their work to bring us a good compromise bill. I’m pleased with the improved information to pipeline communities, especially providing the Safety Data Sheets and grants for public awareness efforts. But I believe we need more information.

Support of Carson Amendment #31
Mr. Chairman, I’m offering my amendment to improve flight safety by requiring the installation of secondary cockpit barriers on new passenger airplanes.
Unfortunately, Americans continue to be susceptible to terrorist attacks. Since 2001, there have been at least 43 hijacking attempts around the world since, 5 of which were successful.

Mr. Chairman, I commend you and Ranking Member DeFazio for working together to bring a six-year reauthorization bill before the full committee today. I also want to acknowledge the contributions of Highway Subcommittee Chairman Graves and Ranking Member Norton.
