INDIANAPOLIS - Congressman André Carson will speak tomorrow during the 23rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Celebration. The event will include the unveiling of a bronze bust honoring Congressman Carson's grandmother, Julia Carson, who was the first African American and first woman to represent the 7th Congressional District of Indiana.
The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Celebration is hosted by the Indiana Civil Rights Commission and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Commission.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Congressman André Carson announced today his list of nominees for attendance at one of the United States Service Academies. Nominated students will be considered for acceptance to the Class of 2018, and if accepted, will receive an all-expenses paid education.

Congressman Jacobs was family. He served as an invaluable mentor and dear friend to my grandmother, Julia Carson, who he hired to work in his Indianapolis congressional office in 1965. It was Andy's faith and encouragement that inspired my grandmother to run for state representative in 1972, and his support of her never wavered.
