I want to share a story about Roodens, Jessica, and their 3-year-old son, Wens from Indianapolis.
The family contacted my office because they had a problem: Wens, a U.S. citizen born in Haiti, could not come home to Indianapolis because of a paperwork issue. His parents needed to secure paperwork from the American Embassy in Port Au Prince, but it wasn’t easy. In Haiti, armed groups control up to 90 percent of the capital. The nation is in turmoil – and the simple act of getting to the embassy was turning out to be nearly impossible.
This week, I voted against an appropriations bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security for Fiscal Year 2026 because it failed to stop the unlawful actions and abuses by ICE.
WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman André Carson (IN-07) made the following statement after voting no on the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2026:
As we close out the year, I want to take a moment to reflect on 2025 and how we’ve been able to make a difference for Indianapolis families.
This year brought new challenges with a new administration, but I focused on one core mission: being responsive, accessible, and an effective advocate for the people. I’m proud to share some highlights of this work.
Serving Constituents:
