BUNKER HILL, IN—Today, following an oversight visit, Congressman André Carson (IN-07) called for an end to ICE detention at Miami Correctional Facility and for full investigations into two recent deaths in custody.

Lorth Sim, 59, died in ICE custody at Miami Correctional on February 16, 2026. Tuan Van Bui, 55, died at Miami Correctional on April 1 — two deaths in ICE custody in less than two months.

ICE is considering Indianapolis for a new detention facility.

Here's my message to ICE: you're not welcome.

I've repeatedly voted against ICE funding under Trump's cruel regime. Government funding should be used for housing, food deserts, and improving our roads — not to detain children and murder U.S. citizens.

I want to share a story about Roodens, Jessica, and their 3-year-old son, Wens from Indianapolis.

The family contacted my office because they had a problem: Wens, a U.S. citizen born in Haiti, could not come home to Indianapolis because of a paperwork issue. His parents needed to secure paperwork from the American Embassy in Port Au Prince, but it wasn’t easy. In Haiti, armed groups control up to 90 percent of the capital. The nation is in turmoil – and the simple act of getting to the embassy was turning out to be nearly impossible.

As we close out the year, I want to take a moment to reflect on 2025 and how we’ve been able to make a difference for Indianapolis families.

This year brought new challenges with a new administration, but I focused on one core mission: being responsive, accessible, and an effective advocate for the people. I’m proud to share some highlights of this work.

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman André Carson (IN-07), Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02), and Congresswoman Lucy McBath (GA-06) introduced the Gun Safety Incentive Act. The bill promotes safe gun storage practices by providing a federal tax credit for individuals who purchase certified firearm safes and secure storage devices.

This incentive supports gun owners who take steps to store their firearms safely – an action proven to reduce the risk of accidents, suicides, and theft.
