May 8, 2014

WASHINGTON – Congressman André Carson (IN-07) today released a list of provisions he successfully included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), annual federal legislation that authorizes spending and sets policy for the for United States military and Department of Defense. The NDAA will be considered by the full House during the week of May 19.

Carson worked closely with Democrats and Republicans, including Congresswoman Jackie Walorski (IN-02), to make sure the Hoosier needs and concerns are addressed in the legislation.

WASHINGTON -- Congressman André Carson issued the following statement today regarding the kidnapping of girls and young women in Nigeria:

"As a Muslim and the father of a young girl, I strongly condemn the actions of this group and support American efforts to locate and rescue these young women. I would also ask our partners in the international community to be vigilant and work together to find the missing girls and return them to their families. These horrific actions cannot stand, and we join our hearts in prayer for these young women."

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis native Jennifer Wagner begins today as Communications Director for Congressman André Carson. She will be based in the Indianapolis district office.

Wagner is a former Indianapolis Star reporter who has served as Communications Director for the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and Deputy Director of Public Affairs for National Nuclear Security Administration, the federal agency in Washington that oversees the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile and the largest nonproliferation program in the world.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Today, Congressman Carson released the following statement after speaking with Secretary of the Army John McHugh about an Army proposal to realign certain financial management and accounting services handled by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). The exchange occurred during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the Fiscal Year 2015 Army budget.

The focus of the event is to help constituents understand how to enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace. Kathleen Falk, Regional Director for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will join Congressman Carson.

Indianapolis, IN - Congressman Carson and staff will deliver valentines to local veterans at the Indianapolis VA medical center this Friday. Children from several schools in Wayne, Lawrence, and Decatur Townships along with students from Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) prepared the valentines expressing their gratitude to those who have served in our armed forces.

Indianapolis, IN — Congressman André Carson issued the following statement regarding a new report showing that at the end of last week more than 1.6 million Americans had been cut off from their unemployment insurance. The report, which was released last week by the Ways and Means Committee Democrats, bases its estimates on the average number of individuals looking for work who are losing their unemployment insurance each week.
