The following is a statement from Congressman Andre Carson on today's flotilla incident in the Middle East:
"I was deeply saddened and troubled to hear about the violence that broke out aboard a civilian flotilla bound for Gaza. The international community must move quickly to gather the facts surrounding this tragedy and prevent heightened tensions from leading to further loss of life.
"This weekend Americans will pause to recognize our fellow citizens who devoted their lives to the service of the United States. There is much that is owed to these men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. President Abraham Lincoln called this sacrifice ‘the last full measure of devotion.'
"National Small Business Week recognizes the unique impact made by entrepreneurs and small business owners.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson voted today to approve H.R. 5116, the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010. This key measure will create jobs and support research and development to ensure America remains a global economic leader.
COMPETES will double funding for basic scientific research over 10 years, as well as establishes an innovative technology federal loan program. These loan guarantees will help small- and medium-sized manufacturers stay competitive be increasing access to capital and encouraging investment in innovation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman André Carson today voted to approve legislation that makes significant investments in American jobs and cuts taxes for middle-class families to help the nation continue along the path of economic recovery.
Hundreds of qualified troops have been removed from service because of this flawed policy. Today we have finally taken an important step to address not only an important equal rights issue, but a national security issue.

Last year I joined my colleagues on the Financial Services Committee to craft a comprehensive set of measures that will protect our economy and better secure American's hard-earned retirement accounts by modernizing our financial regulations and holding Wall Street accountable.

"Combine Indiana's largest over-the-month increase in employment since 1999 with national numbers released earlier in the month, and it becomes clear the significant impact the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act is having on our state and nation.
