Indianapolis, IN- Congressman André Carson will join in honoring his grandmother, former Congresswoman Julia Carson, at a Post Office Dedication Ceremony this Monday, June 16, 2008. The Ceremony will begin promptly at 10:30 am and will take place at the Mapleton Post Office located at 2650 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Earlier this week, Congressman André Carson joined the U.S. House of Representatives Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, and Transgender (LBGT) Equality Caucus. The mission of the LGBT Equality Caucus is to achieve the extension of equal rights, the repeal of discriminatory laws, the elimination of hate-motivated violence, and the improved health and well being for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman André Carson and the Indiana House Delegation recently sent a letter to Department of Labor Secretary Elaine Chao requesting that her agency provide urgently needed emergency assistance to those Indiana workers dislocated by the recent onslaught of catastrophic weather that has swept through the state of Indiana.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman André Carson today joined a bipartisan majority of his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in voting for legislation that will extend unemployment assistance to those American workers who have lost their jobs as a result of our slowing economy. H.R. 5749, the Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act of 2008 passed by a 274 to 137 vote margin.

Madam Speaker, over the last few weeks, my home state of Indiana has fallen victim to a string of severe weather incidents.  Recent tornados, thunderstorms, and flooding have seriously damaged and destroyed homes, schools, and businesses throughout the Hoosier state.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman André Carson joined a majority of his congressional colleagues in supporting legislation that will upgrade our nation's passenger rail services and seek to ensure that Amtrak workers at the Beech Grove repair facility do not arbitrarily have their jobs relocated. H.R. 6003, the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act was approved in the House by a vote of 311 to 104.
