Washington, D.C. – Congressman André Carson issued the following statement in response to the announcement that Charles "Chuck" Hagel will step down as Secretary of Defense once a successor is confirmed:

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman André Carson (IN-07) released the following on President Barack Obama's Executive Action on immigration:

"My deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of Abdul-Rahman Kassig, formerly known as Peter. The brutality shown to Kassig is in stark contrast to the bravery he displayed while serving his nation as an Army Ranger and dedicated humanitarian. My prayers are with the family and those still suffering under the violence in the Middle East."

INDIANAPOLIS - Today, Congressman André Carson announced that EmployIndy is the recipient of an $8.3M grant on behalf of the Department of Labor to help reduce long-term unemployment in the region. The grant which runs through 2018, will create Employ Up, a program designed to train Hoosiers in STEM-related skills in an effort reduce the need for H-1B visas.

In July, Congressman Carson wrote a letter of support to the Department of Labor in support of the grant request and expressing his thanks for the good work being done by EmployIndy.

Congressman André Carson released the following statement tonight regarding the news of ISIL hostage, Hoosier, Peter Kassig.

"Tonight I encourage my fellow Hoosiers and Americans to join me in praying for Peter Kassig and his family during this unbelievably difficult time. No family should ever have to endure a tragedy like this. As a community we must respect their privacy and keep them in our thoughts during the trying days ahead."

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman André Carson (IN-07) released the following statement today after Attorney General Eric Holder announced he will depart the Justice Department once a successor is confirmed:

Today, Congressman André Carson announced that Volunteers of America of Indiana is the recipient of a one million dollar grant from the Department of Justice to help reduce recidivism rates across the state.

The funds will be used to fund mentoring for mothers and fathers that are within six months of release from a correctional facility. The goal is to reduce recidivism rates by providing mentoring that focuses on family reunification, employment and training and substance abuse treatment.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced that Metropolitan School District in Pike Township was awarded nearly $1 million dollars over the course of the next five years to help prevent violence and reduce negative student behavior. The money is part of the Project Prevent grant program, a program aimed at expanding the capacity of local education agencies to more effectively assist affected schools in communities exposed to violence.
