Mr. Speaker, I am proud, as the longest serving Muslim in Congress, to in- troduce legislation to recognize the com- mencement of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal, and wish Muslims around the world a Ramadan Mubarak! I thank the endorsing organizations that joined this important resolution: Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Islamic Relief, and the Muslim Public Affairs Council.
Mr. CARSON. Mr. Speaker, today I rise to acknowledge a fellow Midwesterner and former colleague from the state of Michigan, Bob Carr, on his 80th birthday. Bob has spent a lifetime in public service and education and continues to have a lasting impact on our insti- tution.
Bob served this body for 18 years, rep- resenting Michigan’s 6th and 8th Congres- sional Districts. During his time in Congress, he proudly served on the Armed Services Committee and then on Appropriations, where he worked to end the United States’ military involvement in Southeast Asian conflicts.
Mr. Speaker, today I am re- introducing the Emerging Business Encouragement Act which will give new small businesses a more equal playing field to secure federal contracts.
