Rep. André Carson Introduces Bill to Raise Awareness about the Dangers of Synthetic Drugs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congressman André Carson (D-IN) introduced H.R. 4205, which calls upon the Office of National Drug Control Policy to include a public service announcement on the dangers of synthetic drugs as part of it national youth anti-drug media campaign. This bill requires no additional funding and addresses a growing public health and safety concern.

Rep. Carson Asks Secretary Panetta to Expedite Implementation of Military Mental Health Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congressman André Carson (IN-7) directed a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta requesting the expedited implementation of portions of his Service Members Mental Health Screening Act, which was signed into law by President Barack Obama as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Indiana congressional delegation today sent a letter to President Barack Obama expressing strong support for Governor Mitch Daniels' request that the administration provide Public Assistance to five counties in southern Indiana impacted by the recent severe tornadoes and storms. Yesterday the governor asked that a Major Disaster Area Declaration be declared for Clark, Jefferson, Scott, Ripley and Washington counties.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Congressman Payne's passing. Rep. Payne possessed an unwavering commitment and dedication to all those he served, devoting his entire professional life to the pursuit of justice and equality for his neighbors near and far.


STATEMENT HONORING THE LIFE OF CONGRESSMAN DONALD PAYNE

From my first days in Congress, I always considered Donald Payne to be a mentor and friend.

He took me and others under his wing and showed us what it means to truly be a Member of Congress—not just a politician.

He showed me, like he showed so many in this Chamber, how much more we accomplish through humility and cooperation than through bravado and partisanship.
