WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman André Carson (IN-07) formally requested additional information from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security regarding the potential use of Camp Atterbury in Indiana for immigration detention purposes.
Madam Chair and Ranking Member, thank you for providing me time to testify this morning. I have 4 amendments to this Reconciliation bill.
My amendments protect Medicaid, passenger rail, our environment, and would help protect the middle class.
Mr. Speaker, today I rise to speak about Arica, from Indianapolis’ eastside. Arica is a single mother of 5, including one child with special needs. She says if Medicaid is cut, she and her 5 kids will not be able to survive.
There’s Carol Ann, whose Meals on Wheels have already been reduced. She told me, quite simply, “We need food to live.”
Bethany, from the Southside of Indianapolis. She says, “Without Medicaid I would be dead. If Trump cuts Medicaid, I will probably die. I am not alone in this.”

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Congressman André Carson (IN-07) offered an amendment to protect Amtrak funding during today’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee reconciliation bill markup.
The Carson amendment would have protected funding for the Amtrak National Network by prohibiting the Secretary of Transportation from rescinding its grant funding or from adding any new terms or conditions beyond what Congress has already directed. The amendment did not pass.
